Picnic Point High School First Nations Mural

Over the past months, our First Nations students have had the fantastic opportunity to work with Michael Fardon, a local artist.

Michael is a proud Dharawal man with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Arts. He works as a mural artist within schools throughout western Sydney.

They designed and painted a mural that represents the importance of the local environment to Aboriginal people. The school sits on Land of the Bidjigal people of the Dharug Nation. It depicts the Georges River and the animals that use it. It shows the path the local tribes travelled along, and campfire symbols represent meeting points used during their journeys.

“I think it’s really important that the students are involved with the entire mural process, from concept design to the finished product. This gives the students a real sense of ownership and pride within their school and culture.”

We can’t thank Michael enough for allowing our students the opportunity to work and connect with him.
